Avast is a product by ALWIL Software, a company which was founded in the late 80s; a very close timeline to the foundation date of the mother company for Bitdefender antivirus as well. Both these companies have evolved well over past few decades. Avast specializes in the free products for computer and handheld smart devices, and Bitdefender is also very popular for all platforms and to all kinds of computer users. Both Bitdefender and Avast have free antivirus products for the people who doesn’t wish to spend on security products, and paid programs as well for those who can’t sacrifice on PC security at any means.
But which of these two are the best options and provide the best value for money? We intend to find out here.
Bitdefender Antivirus products come for a good budget range. Bitdefender Antivirus Free is totally free and there’s no licensing requirement as well. Bitdefender Antivirus Plus is $39.95 for 1 PC per year and $59.95 for 3 PC per year and Bitdefender Internet Security comes for $59.95 per year for only one device, and $59.95 for 3 devices for 1 year. That’s a very reasonable pricing because the return would be much bigger.
On the other hand, Avast Antivirus has a free product and their paid versions cost as following –Avast Pro Antivirus costs $34.99 per year, and the protection is similar to Bitdefender Antivirus Plus. Avast Internet Security costs $39.99, which is much lesser than Bitdefender’s version of the same, and Avast Premium costs $49.99 with everything – from antivirus to extensive modules.
Bitdefender Antivirus Free offers a very limited range of features, and Avast does the exact opposite. There’s a whole lot of feature inside Avast Free Antivirus interface, few modules require paid activation but initially they are free. As opposed to the antivirus, anti-rootkit, and web protection in the Bitdefender Free Antivirus, Avast Free Antivirus offers a whole lot – an anti-spyware module which is also known as anti-adware, a nearly full-fledged firewall, slightly limited home network security module for free, malware and Trojan Horse protection and last but not the least, a very effective website protection.
And all these are provided for free!
However, for the paid version, Bitdefender Total Security provides a lot more than the Avast Antivirus Pro. Avast users get https scanning, real time protection, web protection etc. in a much larger scale in the Pro version, whereas Bitdefender Total Security owners get automatic scanning and updates, anti-phishing, anti-spyware/adware and anti-spam filter and also a remote protection feature where users can find a way to provide security from a remote computer connected via a network.
Few features are common in both these products, such as safe payment over internet. Avast named this feature Safe Payments, while Bitdefender calls it Safepay. Does the same job! Both these programs can block specific websites or network addresses, offer secure browsing as a dedicated feature, and smart scan etc.
For free protection, Avast Free Antivirus is recommended. For the best off paid security, we recommend users to get either of the Bitdefender Internet Security or Bitdefender Total Security.
